Australian celebrity conservationist Elissa Sursara has been admitted to The Gold Coast Hospital overnight.
Neighbors of her parents’ luxury home on Sovereign Island where Sursara has been staying reported the disturbance of an ambulance at 3:47am and claim the 23-year-old was escorted by stretcher to the bus. According to a neighbor, she did not seem conscious at the time.
It is not clear what treatment Sursara is receiving.
Earlier this month, the 23-year-old sustained injuries to her neck and shoulders after her Mercedes-Benz SL 550 crashed into a roadside tree. Officers at the scene reported unusual road marks that suggested the activist’s car, a graduation gift from her parents, had been driven toward the tree at speed.
Beloved in Australia for her bubbly personality and modern approach to environmental activism, Sursara, a frequent guest on Australian radio and graduate in Biomedical Engineering and Biology from the prestigious Australian National University, had been campaigning the introduction of Coal Seam Gas in Australia alongside alternative rock band Dead Letter Circus.
She made headlines last month when documentary The Cove premiered in Australia, asking her twenty-thousand plus Twitter followers to boycott marine park SeaWorld and participate in an online protest.
